Buried Treasure you can Find

This book is great. It has many great places to look for treasure in every state. The author has done years of research to find many old ghost towns, buried treasure stories, and many other places. It gives tips on metal detecting, but seems to have been paid by Garrett Metal Detectors to advertise and show their detectors in this book. It also informs you how to find good places to look. This book is a masterpiece and very interesting even if you are not going out to look for lost treasures of yesterday.

Great book. I have found two forts and an old gold mining town close to me to hunt in thanks to this book. It really is a good book.

Disappointing

The local information given here is not very helpful and sometimes even misleading. National monuments ( like Tumacacori Mission in arizona) and even gated state historic sites, some with museums such as the ruins of the Old Tubac Presidio in Arizona are listed as though they were abandoned ghost towns. There is some good information here but it's hard to know which information you can trust. The problem is, that unless you are personally familiar with a particular area the information here can be sketchy at best and woefully out-of-date or misleading at worst. I think this book was "slapped together" with more thought given to selling books than to careful research. If you just want to know the names of places, lost mines or ghost towns in a given area this will work, but if you want much more information than that... you're on your own.

About the Author
Stewart Clegg is a prolific publisher of several hundred articles in leading academic journals in strategy, social science, management and organization theory; is also the author and editor of about fifty books, as well as a Fellow of the British Academy of Social Sciences, a Distinguished Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management, a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, and the recipient of significant awards from the American Academy of Management for his contributions to management theory and practice.

Martin Kornberger received his PhD form the University of Vienna in 2002. Currently he works as full time Visiting Professor at the Department of Organization, Copenhagen Business School. Trained as philosopher, he researches and teaches about practices of organizing, strategizing, accounting, and marketing, and explores how they shape, and are shaped by, the economy and society at large.

Robert Barclay spent much of his life in Kwajalein. He now lives in Honolulu. This is his first book.

About the Author
Robert Barclay, a twenty-five resident of Hawai'i, was raised on the island of Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. His previous short stories have appeared in Manoa, Hawai'i Review, Hawaii Pacific Review, Don't Look Back, and Scribner's. His novel Melal, published by the University of Hawai'i Press, was short-listed for the 2003 Kiriyama Prize, and was selected by Barnes & Noble for its Discover Great New Writers program, among other honors. The novel is currently being adapted into a film by producer and director Vilsoni Hereniko, whose first film, The Land Has Eyes, was a featured film at the Sundance Film Festival.

My eyes were flung open

For me a great book is one where I keep going back and rereading to clarify or deepen my understanding of sections, and to put off starting another book because it was so fully satisfying. I have travelled may times to French Polynesia, Bali and Southeast Asia and somehow thought the Americans treated their "protectorates" somewhat better than the European countries--this book was a rude awakening to me. This is a part of our nuclear history I never gave much thought to, nor has there been adequate coverage of the evils of Nuclear Testing--I kept being shoked that these things were hapeening in the '60s and still in the '80s. Reading this was like a gunny sack to the head--hey, there were people on those island, DUH.

I liked the book from the start, but had some problems with all the names of gods and demons. At times the sheer ugliness of some of the images would overwhelm me, but then it would become clear what the author was trying to relate in a beautiful metaphor or a shocking parallel. These passages would be balanced by the many lyrical passages, compelling images and exciting story lines. I was left thinking about so many aspects of modern versus traditional life. There are almost too many images overlaping in layers to do a review service, but a couple of my favorites were the adventure with the dolphins in the fountain (with a whole other perspective about the use of dolphins opened to me), and the Good Friday incident with the statue of Jesus. By the end I kept jumping back to the mythological stories, very unlike any I have encountered before and was pbusy reviewong the many paradigm shifts I had to make during the reading. Satisfying and fulfilling on every level.

The place is the Marshall Islands. The theme is universal.

Every morning, Rujen Keju takes the 3-mile ferry ride from his home on Ebeye in the Marshall islands where he lives in squalor, to his job at the sewage plant at Kwajalein, the American-run island which is off-limits to him after the workday. He's accepted this as his way of life, and his older teen-age son, Jebro, is supposed to start working there also after the weekend. By the end of the day, however, he and his two sons come face to face with challenges, which will change their outlook forever. It just happens to be Good Friday, 1981 and the symbolism of that day is one of the many intertwining themes in this novel by first-time author Robert Barclay.
Rujen encounters a series of mishaps that day, including having his work-boots stolen, and the reader is drawn into his story as he goes through the day, trying to conform to what is expected of him and looking forward to his volunteer job as an usher at the Catholic church later. In the meantime, his son Jebro and his younger brother Nuke, set out on a small boat to visit the homeland of their grandfather, a small island which has been declared off-limits to Marshallese people. To add another dimension to the story is the magical tale of mischief-making gods and demons appearing as characters who play tricks on each other.
The story is told through alternative chapters, turning a flashlight on one harsh reality after another as the characters struggle through their day. And yet, there is sense of humor throughout, as we see each character's strengths, weaknesses, complexity and growth. Everyone is breaking some sort of minor law, including three American teenagers who are cutting school and out fishing that day. Their encounter with the two young brothers is both frightening and inspiring as they, too, learn a lot from the day's events.
I was immediately drawn into the writing and couldn't put it down. I loved the characters and I loved the situation. I also gained understanding of the history as well as and myths and legends that define the Marshall Islanders as a people. I usually don't like books that include magical characters, but these were so outrageous that they held my attention completely. The author is great at description and he lets himself go really wild as he describes the demons. Another theme throughout is scatological which addresses the very real issue of sewage management on the islands. And then there are the themes of father and sons, and Good Friday suffering. But best of all is the theme of love and camaraderie and lessons learned.
This book is a small gem that not only taught me a lot, but also made me think. Even the conclusion, which is indeed satisfactory, is something that gave me even more food for thought. I hope to hear more about this author, who now lives on Hawaii. His is fresh clear voice brings reveals some universal themes. Highly recommended.

Unethical, Negligent Opportunist Scam

I am a psychologist and I have some serious concerns here.

This is neither a game nor a book. Adams simply stole the 36 questions used in the research of Dr. Arthur Aron on falling in love. He does not give the user adequate warning of the consequences of this "game" and simply plagiarizes the 36 questions that you could find for free online. There is no other content other than about 2 pages of commentary that fails to warn the user of the potential consequences of this activity or to explain the research behind it. Briefly, Dr. Aron had his research participants answer 36 questions that gradually become more personal and intimate, then finished by asking them to stare into each other's eyes for 4 minutes. He found that several of these participants who were randomly matched fell in love. Unfortunately, the long term consequences of this research are yet to be determined. Was it real love or were they "tricked" into intimacy that they mistook for love? Will it last or will they just as easily fall out of love and be heartbroken?

Adams is a theft of this content and has zero concern for the consequences. He is an opportunist seeking to capitalize off something he put none of his own thinking or work into. Avoid at all costs.

Terry Krupa, Bonnie Kirsh, and their contributors, examines psychosocial models of practice and their application across a wide range of practice areas in occupational therapy, instead of being singularly focused on practice areas of the needs of people living with identified mental illnesses. Efforts have been made to highlight the relevance of specific models to practice for people with mental illnesses, particularly where the issues experienced by this group have historically been poorly addressed.  The authors have also organized models and practice approaches according to the level at which they intervene to create change – occupation, person, environment, and transdisciplinary levels.
 
As their central domain of concern, the first group of occupational models or approaches have a focus on “what people do” in their daily lives. A second group of models reflect those that intervene at the level of the person. This group understands strengths and problems in occupation as evolving largely from features or qualities of the individual, and the therapeutic processes suggested are directed to changing or building upon these features. A third group of models and approaches focus on the psychosocial context and environment to elicit and enable a positive change in occupation.  In some cases, these environmental models expand commonly-held, narrow definitions of “clinical” practice to encourage occupational therapists to engage in population-level practices. Finally, a small group of models of practice are labeled as transdisciplinary. Transdisciplinary models provide ways to develop conceptualizations of psychosocial practice issues, practice language, and approaches that are shared across disciplinary boundaries.

Terry Krupa, PhD, OT Reg (Ont), FCAOT is a Professor in the Occupational Therapy Program of the School of Rehabilitation Therapy at Queen’s University, Canada. She holds cross appointments in the Department of Psychiatry and the School of Nursing. She has practiced in the mental health field for over 30 years, as a clinician, educator, and researcher/scholar. Terry has been involved in the development and evaluation of a range of services and intervention approaches focused on improving the health, well-being, and full community participation of people living with mental illness. Terry has been the recipient of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapist’s Muriel Driver and Leadership Awards. She was the inaugural recipient of the Pioneer Award for Recovery Research presented by Psychosocial Rehabilitation Canada.

Bonnie Kirsh, PhD, OT Reg (Ont) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, with cross appointments to the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute and the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. Prior to becoming an academic, she was a clinician and an administrator in the field of occupational therapy and mental health. Her work focuses on community engagement for people experiencing mental illnesses, with a focus on systems, services, and interventions that enable people to obtain and maintain meaningful and productive roles. Bonnie was appointed to the Mental Health Commission of Canada and has participated on boards of community mental health agencies. She has also been the recipient of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapist’s Muriel Driver Award.

Deborah Pitts, PhD, OTR/L, BCMH, CPRP is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Occupational Therapy in the USC Chan Division of ­Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy. She has developed an expertise in the philosophy and practice of psychiatric ­rehabilitation with a particular interest in how occupation influences the “lived experience” of recovery for persons labeled with psychiatric disabilities. Deborah has served as an occupational therapy clinician, educator, scholar, and consultant, and as a surveyor for behavioral health facilities in the United States. Deborah has worked actively to advance the mental health knowledge and practice in occupational therapy, through her leadership in the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Mental Health Special Interest Section and in the development of the competencies for AOTA Board Certification in Mental Health. She was the 2011 recipient of Occupational Therapy Association of California’s Annual Practice Award in acknowledgment of her long-standing commitment to advocating for the role of occupational therapy in mental health

Ellie Fossey, PhD, MSc, DipCOT (UK) has conducted occupational therapy research and taught in occupational therapy undergraduate and ­postgraduate programs at La Trobe University in Melbourne for over 20 years, as well as in Singapore, and previous positions in South Australia and Coventry, England. Ellie is a member of La Trobe University’s Living with Disability Research Centre and an Honorary Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry, The University of Melbourne. Her research and teaching focus on frameworks for understanding people’s everyday lives and occupations, the ways in which these may be affected by health conditions and changing life circumstances, and on occupation-focused practices. Ellie’s research has ­predominantly attended to time use, education, and work-related issues faced by people whose lives are disrupted by ­mental health issues. She is widely published in occupational therapy, disability, and mental health journals and has ­particular interests in using qualitative and collaborative approaches to research within these fields.
