Nothing happened after reading this book. Nothing happened after doing the experiments presented when I read the instructions and did them. Then I went to bed. Out of the blue I tried the the "Touching Your No-Head" experiment lying in bed with only the little ambient light in the room. I touched my head and felt only sensations in the center of nothing and this nothing was me... I wanted to laugh, but muffled my laughter to not wake my wife. There it was, or more precisely there it wasn't, what I have been looking for - for so long. I know nothing will be the same and there's no one to consult, it was and is as clear as day. Your mileage may vary, not all paths resonate with everyone. In fact, this is not the first time I came across this set of pointers, but before there was no effect. By "accident" I tried again, and what a difference it's made. Worth investigating, experimenting and even if it does not have an effect, worth coming back to later.

Good book even though it comes up short in some areas...

I wanted to read this book ever since seeing the infomercial of Scott doing his thing on tv. I couldn't afford or justify the expense to buy the big commerical package so this book had to do. The methods are easy to follow and Mr. Flansburg does a good job expressing his mind set in how he mentally did the problems. The basic addition and multiplications methods are good but the examples were insufficient when dealing with mixed numbers of different lengths. There were also exceptions to many of the rules that weren't expressed. Finally, the last part of the book with special rules were so numerious it would take a year to effectively learn and apply them all from memory. This leads me to believe that Mr. Flansburg didn't tell everything he knows, like the quick way to determine change -- by changing say ten bucks to 9.99 and subtracting that from the amount owed; then add one cent to get the correct change. It's easier to subtract 9 since its the highest value you can have in each column. This was presented by him on a night time radio show he was a guest on. I do give him prasie for getting people young and old to stop depending on calculators and learn mental speed math.

a good place to start learing mental math

This book does not give a system of how to use the the various short cuts.It does not say when and where each short cut is most useful.Thereby,trying to remember all or any of them leads to confusion.However,i found the chapters on "using zeroes to hold places", addition,subtraction,and "cross multiplication" to be superb!If you are a concerned parent,student ,or adult ; i recommend SPEED MATHEMATICS SIMPLIFIED by edward stoddard as the most comprehensive manual of shortcut math available anywhere! Learn the simple truths about the japanese and german approach to basic arithmetic . Then on the opposite side of the coin(READING) i recommend :HOW TO READ A BOOK ,by mortimer adler /charles van doren.

This book is terrible

Anyone who has seriously attempted to use Scott Flansburg math strategies will find out that his methods simply do not work outside of the examples in his book. The problem solving techniques are engineered to work only with the examples that he supplied. For instance, in his chapter on solving cubed roots, his method will work for the exercises in the book, however when I applied these to real world numbers, his methods flat out failed. Hey Scott, try solving the cubed root of these numbers 11111111 or even 123456 using the method described on page 153 - your methods are flawed.

Audiophile Vacuum Tube Amplifiers Igor S Popovich

This is a terrific publication, if your into tube audio this is the book you need. I have volume two as well. Both books are really well set out, going from basic electrical theory to how tubes an associated circuits work. Igor Popovich has an excellent way of explaining even the more complex designs. I have built some of the tube amplifiers from these books with fantastic results. I could not speak more highly of this book and would recommend both publications to anyone who has an interest in the wonderful world of tube audio.

I have bought both volume 1 & 2 and am about half way through the first volume. It is a very thorough book without going over the top. Everything follows a logical progression from basic electronic theory to components to general audio amplifiers to fundamentals of vacuum tube operation & so on. It does assume a basic understanding of electronics & high school mathematics, but that's enough to work through & build up your knowledge. Richly illustrated, with lots of real life tube circuitry & explanations on how they work. Not a book for absolute beginners, but not too overly technical to totally discourage you either! He completely covers his subject over the 2 volumes & I would recommend these to anyone who is serious in learning how these wonderful amplifies work!

Best thing I have ever spent my money on hands down!

This item is a MUST in the tax and accounting fields if you want to stay abreast the current tax laws. The authors even invite the reader to use their online website periodically to keep an eye on current tax laws which might be changing after the book is published which is especially helpful. The only downside to this book is when I researched one topic in particular, the 8862 or claiming the earned income credit after disallowance, it was silent on the matter and didn't acknowledge it at all. But for the money I spent on a used version of this book, I am not complaining one bit. If you think that the book omitting this particular topic is a sure sign of other basic tax laws also not included, you would be wrong. It is surprising but again, there is so much tax information jammed packed into this book, I'm actually surprised that more hasn't been left out. It has answered years worth of questions and even helped me win several audits for my clients because of unknown or not widely known tax rules and regulations that benefit taxpayers.

I have had one of these every year since 1987

I work in corporate taxes full time and have access to a complete library of tax materials at work. I use this guide at home for my personal tax return and those of family and friends that I am requested to do. This answers almost 100% of the questions that come up.

I do not find the text too small as one reviewer has suggested and it has been the same size since 1987. This is the best and most comprehensive small book on taxes on the market. It covers personal taxes very well, and does have a surprisingly good coverage of general corporate, partnership and not for profit corporate coverage.

About the Author

Jeff Victor is a principal sales consultant at Oracle Corporation. Prior to joining Oracle, Jeff was a principal field technologist for Sun Microsystems. He is an OpenSolaris Zones Community Leader, the creator of the zonestat open-source program, and a regular author, contributor, and speaker at corporate and industry events. Jeff received a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Jeff Savit is a product manager in the Oracle VM Server organization. and specializes in operating systems, virtualization, and performance. Prior to Oracle, he was a Principal Field Technologist at Sun. Previously he was a Vice President at Merrill Lynch, with roles in systems programming, software development, market data, and web applications.

He was awarded a patent for dynamic workload management, and is an author or co-author of several books including "Oracle Solaris 10 Virtualization Essentials", "Enterprise Java", "VM & CMS: Performance and Fine Tuning", "VM/CMS Concepts and Facilities".

Gary Combs is a Sales Performance Designer, in the Oracle Sales and Partner Academy at Oracle Corporation. He specializes in creating field sales training programs covering SPARC servers, and all Engineered Systems. Prior to joining Oracle, Gary was with Sun Microsystems. He has over 15 years of direct sales support experience as a systems engineer, and over 15 years of marketing positions in product management, product definition, and technical marketing. Gary is co-author of the book, "Oracle Solaris 10 System Virtualization Essentials".

Bob Netherton is a principal sales consultant at Oracle Corporation specializing in Oracle Solaris, virtualization, open-source software, and Linux interoperability. Prior to joining Oracle, Bob was a principal field technologist for Sun Microsystems, and was one of the architects and content developers of the Solaris Boot Camp and Deep Dive seminar series. In addition, he has developed several best practices guides for Solaris as well as an advanced Solaris training curriculum. Bob is also involved in several OpenSolaris users groups in the American Midwest and Southwest. Bob received a bachelor of science degree in applied mathematics from the University of Missouri, and he is a regular blogger on Solaris, virtualization, and open-source technologies.
