Restored My Faith in This Genre!!!

I don't give 5 Stars easily but I was so impressed that someone finally got an ending right. I HATE these serial novels that are just one story haphazardly broken into pieces to sell more books. The "cliffhanger" endings usually leave me feeling cold and no longer interested in what happens since absolutely nothing is left resolved. Ms. LaTrice, you have restore my faith in this genre immensely. I got my resolutions, my happy ever after (maybe not so happy by according to the last page?) and one hell of a surprise ending. The only things I found hard to swallow were Kendrick getting out of bed 30 minutes after coming out of a coma, but this is fiction after all so I won't focus too hard on that. The second was it was tough keeping track of all of the characters, especially with all of the K names, but I've read a lot worse on that front. And finally I wish you had made the girls at least 18 from the start, they still could have been high school seniors and I wouldn't have felt like To Catch A Predator needed to do a Baltimore edition just for them. I did like the storyline overall, as it was fun. To be honest, even if I had hated it, I would still give you 5 stars for giving your readers a COMPLETE story with a Beginning, Middle and End. Bravo. I think a lot of writers in your genre could learn from you and this novel.

I would, give this book 20 stars if I could. It picked up right where it left off and came stronger with the Drama. These women love them King boys but so do the thots. With the thots scheming to break them up and be the next Mrs. King and men trying to take over their spots... Them Kings show and prove that they rule with a iron fist and they protect their queen by any means. Another CERTIFIED BANGER cannot wait for the next installment.

I love the brothers and their cousin and crew Dannille only was lucky she end up with damian I like the girls they fought for their men I was shock when kendrick just coming out of coma went on a rampage their parents an d unlce was no joke love the action karma was. Busy but not over yet love the ending now I have to wait for part three it just got real

Derek Walcott's identity as a poet is evident even in his literary criticism. Who else would produce a sentence such as "Let the shaggy, long horde of spiky letters and the dark rumbling of hexametrical phalanxes rise over the outback towards the capital of the English language" to describe the work of a fellow poet--in this case, Australian Les Murray? Indeed, each of the essays in What the Twilight Says is at least as rich in language as it is in ideas; so much so, in fact, that at times the view is obscured by the verbiage. Nevertheless, beneath the loco rococo turns of phrase Walcott has some serious points to make. In his discussion of V.S. Naipaul, for example, he offers some telling insights into the effects of colonialism on his subject's psyche: "What is the cost to his Indianness of loving England?" Walcott asks; "To whom does he owe any fealty? Ancestors? The surroundings that history placed them in, the cane fields of Trinidad, were contemptible, as they themselves would have to be, having lost both shame and pride. Therefore, the only dignity is to be neither master nor servant, to choose a nobler servitude: writing. The punishment for the choice is the astonishment of gratitude; to be grateful to the vegetation of an English shire. Not to India or the West Indies, but to the sweet itch of an old wound." Walcott praises Naipaul's genius while calling him on his racism, selfishness, and disdain for his roots--in effect loving the sinner while hating the sin. His essay on Joseph Brodsky is an intelligent meditation on the art of translation while "The Muse of History" looks at the influence of history in New World literature. From a discussion of the poetry of Ted Hughes to an open love letter to Martiniquan writer Patrick Chamoiseau, Derek Walcott provides plenty of provocative food for thought wrapped in poetical prose. --Alix Wilber

In essays originally published between 1970 and 1997, Walcott, winner of a Nobel prize in 1992 for his poetry and plays (Omeros, The Bounty), engages with literature, politics and their intersection. This is Walcott's first prose collection but the writing here is so intense that it threatens to disintegrate into lyric; in fact, the pieces deserve to be read aloud for their finely wrought metaphors, their intelligent, conversational observations and the beauty of their sound. Brilliant insights come suddenly, even unexpectedly, as in the aside that "reading [Wallace] Stevens is like having Chocolate for breakfast." Most of the essays are considerations of a wide range of writers such as Patrick Chamoiseau, Joseph Brodsky and Ernest Hemingway. The remaining few, including the Nobel prize address, "The Antilles: Fragments of an Epic Memory," are intense meditations on the state of West Indian writing and culture. A recurring concern is the relation of the postcolonial writer to the imperial language: Walcott, who now lives in both the United States and his native St. Lucia, describes "barbarian Bards" who "recite long passages of the imperial literature as if it were their own; and with a vigour, even a love, that brings a blush to the civilized cheek." But while he criticizes V.S. Naipaul for turning his back on the West Indies, and praises card-carrying anti-imperialists like C.L.R. James and Aime Cesaire, Walcott is no hard-liner. He is indignant toward those who reject any aspect of the West Indian heritage, whether it be African, Asian, indigenous American or European, acting on his own contention that poetry must not dwell on the scars of history, but should instead embrace the beauty and the possibilities of the present.

So So.....limited in content...

I was disappointed by this reference book because unless a pharmaceutical company chooses to participate in this manual, the medicine information is not there. For example I couldn't even find my own birth control much less my brothers cancer medication. HOWEVER, in the back of the book is a code which allows you a free download of the PDR APP for both Android or Apple OS device where you can easily reference a medication & quite frankly much faster for a business professional. I suggest the APP or the website for quick reference as this book is costly and limited in information.

Shadow of its former self...

This is not the PDR of the past which was a comprehensive listing of generic/trade medications. Less than useful, as it is nearly 1,000 pages less than the 2006 version. Unless you need an incomplete reference source, this is NOT the book for a comprehensive drug reference. I was simply looking for a "technology-fail safe" reference in the off chance my iPhone fell in the toilet. No luck here.

This book contains only some drugs. The only thing it is really good for is pressing flowers. As an example, it contains pages and pages of information on Fosamax, but nothing on Evista.

The "new school" Negroes' role in the Aboltionists crusade.

I recently reviewed this exceptional book for a college history class: Benjamin Quarles did an exceptional job in supporting his well-balanced and non-biased arugment that even though widely neglected in history, the Negro played a significant role in the abolitionists crusade. Quarles's use of Primary sources made this non-biased argument possible. A quick summary of the book is as follows: The "new school" movement began in the late 1820s to the early 30s, and it gave free Negroes the opportunity to publicly speak their views on slavery and the equality of blacks. Even though not all blacks were abolitionists, their general attitude was, as John Scoble stated in 1853, "'...[to be] true to their brethren in bonds...and to remain by them whatever the cost'" (p.7). Whether he be free-born or slave-born, man or woman, an active aboltionist or a supporter of abolition, the Negro was true to his brother in slavery. Evidence of this was shown in Negro reformist sheets, and narratives written by former slaves. The kinship Negroes felt toward the slave was also shown in the formation of anti-slavery societies, in the trips to England in hopes of gaining anti-slavery support, and Negro participation in The Underground Railroad. This book is an excellent account of the Negro participation in the abolitionist movement, long neglected in history. The fact that this book has a well-balanced, greatly supported, easy to read, and truthful arument, makes it exceptional. Quarles said it best when he noted, "To the extent that America had a revolutionary tradition, [the Negro] was its protagonist no less than its symbol" (p.249). One will never feel the same about the Negroes' union in their struggle for freedom and equality, after he reads, Black Aboltionists, by Benjamin Quarles.

A pioneering history

Quarles virtually founded the history of black abolitionism, and he set the bar very high. Before Black Abolitionists, the story of antislavery was viewed almost completely as a matter of selfless, dedicated--or fanatical--whites, with blacks in the roles of desperate fugitives or bit players. Quarles up-ended the narrative and demonstrated that blacks were the key actors, with whites--with very few exceptions--taking at best supporting roles. This is an essential starting point for anyone interested in the antislavery movement or 19th-century U.S. society and reform.

Well Written

I've read several books by Benjamin Quarles and each one is really fascinating. He does a great job of presenting the full story with well documented history from original sources. This book presents forgotten heroes with the courage to rise up against the incredible evil. He traces the progress of black abolitionists as they became early civil rights leaders. Our schools really need these stories of people like David Walker who published a book that caused the states of South Carolina, Georgia and more to pass laws against free speech because he had told the slaves to rise up and serve no master but Christ. There's so much more in this powerful book which should be required reading for anyone studying Civil War history.

Opps I think she did it again! Loved it!

I received this book as an ARC from Net Galley for my honest review and I loved it!!!

I loved every second and every word of this book. I usually go into this big thing describing the book but I want to get tot he meat and potatoes!

Sasha has lived a hard life...she has suffered in ways that are unimaginable to help her family. You would think her struggles are over but she gets hurt protecting her friends only to be awakened by a man who represents all of the things that hurt her in the past. One would think that she would run away but she doesn't...she stands tall and takes a chance...on love... on life...on finally living for herself and what she wants for once.

Hades was such a jerk in the previous books but in this one he is the MAN. Imagine the most selfish person putting all of that energy into the woman he loves... its like he goes from the most selfish man to the most selfless man in the world!

This is honestly a beautiful book packed with passion, love, action, and suspense. This book is selling right now for 3.99 on Kindle Amazon and I think it could sell for soooo much more so get it before they realize they could sell this for more! Great Job Setta!

Review: Divine Ecstasy ~ It's worth reading! One of my favorite series.

Divine Ecstasy is book eight in the Guardians of the Realms series by Setta Jay. This series has fast become one of my favorites. I love the Guardians, the world and characters dreamed up in this spicy series.

Divine Ecstasy was not as jaw-dropping or plot oriented as previous installments. The book focuses around Sacha and Hades, with just small glimpses of what might happen in the future books. We don’t get to see many battles in this story, we end on a cliffhanger and we get to find out who’s book is next.

What I Liked:

Sacha, she is one of three female Guardians. This is the fist full length book devoted to one of the female Guardians. We all know (from reading previous books) that she kept to herself, but we don’t no the full reasons why. Here we finally get to find out why. I also loved her tenacity and determination to not let the bad memories torment her. She is a one strong tough female. Watching her grow and let her mate Hades in, was sweet to read.

Hades is a powerful God who was awakened from the Creator’s enforced sleep. He is scrumptious, thoughtful, sweet and dominant. I loved that he had to take baby steps and show his mate Sacha that he is not like all the others who hurt her. I also loved how he was so sensitive with Sacha’s needs as she battled with her memories. He was there for her and supportive.

We have a totally different kind of mating. It doesn’t take the usual course as all the previous ones before it, this has to do with how the bonding was done and that a God is in the mix.

What I Didn’t Like:

I really missed the battles. This one was not as action-packed as I have come to enjoy from the series.

We get glimpses of Thurl and it's people, but felt like we where not getting enough information on this new mythical land. I felt like we needed more then what we where given.

This novel ends on a cliffhanger. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers. I will say the cliffhanger for this novel does work. Making the reader stop and think what might be next for these Guardians.

I enjoyed this novel and even though Divine Ecstasy was not my favorite. It is still well worth reading. We get a few surprises and developments that make you stop and think as well as our first full novel devoted to one of the female Guardians. I am looking forward to seeing what is in-store for everyone, because something big is coming.

I HAVE A NEW BOOK BOYFRIEND...AND HIS NAME IS HADES!

Outstandingly delectable and seriously H-O-T, Divine Ecstasy blew me away in THE MOST PASSIONATE WAY IMAGINABLE! I now have a BRAND SPANKING NEW BOOK BOYFRIEND...AND HIS NAME IS HADES!! I honestly don't know how Setta Jay does it, but she did an absolute AMAZING job with Divine Ecstasy. Her writing is hands down sexy, fun, and beyond addicting. I can't even find a word that would do justice to how I feel when I read A Guardian of The Realms story. And to say this one may have topped it as of yet, is putting it mildly. Hades is definitely the most thoughtful, sweet, hunky, and dominant of the guardians...and the best part is he is a GOD! I loved how he was so sensitive with Sacha's needs as she battled with her memories. He was there for her and supported her and was just SO. GOOD. With her. Sacha was a total surprise as well. I knew from reading about her in previous stories, that she kept to herself, but to find out the reasons why behind it, stunned me. Yet I was incredibly proud and amazed at her tenacity and determination to not let the bad memories assail her. When she realizes that the God, Hades, is her mate, she takes things by the horn and knows that she needs to complete the bond. The fact that Hades turned out to be seductive, gentle, and patient was a real treat.

I enjoyed how we didn't see many battles in this story (even though the battles are terrible and incredible at the same time). Everything pretty much settled around Sacha and Hades. With just small glimpses of what will happen in future books. And the ending, HOLY COW, was THAT AWESOME! I now know who is next in line for a story and I CAN'T FREAKING WAIT! Setta Jay's stories does that to me. EVERY TIME. She makes me eager and anxious and excited for the next book, and I just don't see that stopping ANYTIME soon.

Divine Ecstasy gets a SCORCHING FIVE SHOOTING STARS! This deserved a ten, but that pesky rule about no more than five stars just gets in the way. This is a wicked, delicious, sensual assault on a readers senses. I. WANT. MORE. RIGHT. NOW.
