Highly recommend for independent readers who are not ready for chapters or for read-aloud to pre-k/elementary kids

My five year old loves this story (we do it as a read-aloud and I enjoyed the story too!) An older child who is past the early readers, but not quite into chapter books would really like this story. It is engaging enough to keep them motivated even though it is quite a bit longer than typical early readers. It also has color pictures on every page. We have read the other Otto and Uncle Tooth stories too, and it is a really fun series!

About the Author
Eric J. Simon is an associate professor of Department of Biology and Health Science at New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire. He teaches introductory biology to science majors and nonscience majors, as well as upper-level courses in genetics, microbiology, tropical marine biology, and molecular biology. Dr. Simon received a B.A. in biology and computer science and an M.A. in biology from Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Harvard University. His research focuses on innovative ways to use technology to improve teaching and learning in the science classroom, particularly for nonscience majors. He is the coauthor of Campbell Biology: Concepts and Connections, Seventh Edition.
 
Jane B. Reece has worked in biology publishing since 1978, when she joined the editorial staff of Benjamin Cummings. Her education includes an A.B. in biology from Harvard University (where she was initially a philosophy major), an M.S. in microbiology from Rutgers University, and a Ph.D. in bacteriology from the University of California, Berkeley. At UC Berkeley and later as a postdoctoral fellow in genetics at Stanford University, her research focused on genetic recombination in bacteria. Dr. Reece taught biology at Middlesex County College (New Jersey) and Queensborough Community College (New York). During her twelve years as an editor, she played a major role in a number of successful textbooks. She is the lead author of Campbell Biology, Ninth Edition and Campbell Biology: Concepts & Connections, Seventh Edition.
 
Jean L. Dickey is a professor of biology at Clemson University. She had no idea that science was interesting until her senior year in high school, when a scheduling problem landed her in advanced biology. Abandoning plans to study English or foreign languages, she enrolled in Kent State University as a biology major. After receiving her B.S. in biology, she went on to earn a Ph.D. in ecology and evolution from Purdue University. Since joining the faculty at Clemson in 1984, Dr. Dickey has specialized in teaching nonscience majors, including a course designed for pre-service elementary teachers and workshops for in-service teachers. She also developed an investigative laboratory curriculum for general biology. Dr. Dickey is the author of Laboratory Investigations for Biology, Second Edition, and is a coauthor of Campbell Biology: Concepts & Connections, Seventh Edition.

Doesn't come with online access code

I bought this book thinking it would come with the required online access code since I thought all new textbooks come with one, but when I opened it turns out it doesn't! So now I have to spend $60 more for the online access code. So just beware when you're buying it.

Great bio textbook

As you might guess, I bought this for a college biology course. I think it is one of the better science textbooks I have come across so far; everything is explained in easy to understand language, there are tons of illustrations and diagrams, and the text even repeats some of the more complex information more than once in a chapter (in case you didn't understand it the first time). It is well organized. Rarely do I read the supplemental "fun fact" type stories in textbooks but the ones in here are very interesting and actually add to the rest of the material.

Kindle version available on PC

Using a kindle for textbooks may seem like a weird choice, but I happened to get a great amount of use out of it. The kindle reader program is available on your home computer, so you're not stuck reading it on a tiny screen or anything. The ability to search the document for keywords, or quickly swap between chapters made my time using it a lot easier.

As for disadvantages, the price is one. Paying $70+ on a digital file seems a little high, even if it is cheaper than most other versions of the book. Secondly, the kindle app is a little touchy when it comes to swapping pages. Often trying to read the text at the bottom of the page resulted in swapping to the next one on accident.

About the Author
Gary F. Kelly has been a sexuality educator for 35 years. He is Vice President for Student Affairs at Clarkson University, where he also teaches the sexuality section of the First Year Seminar and the undergraduate psychology course in human sexuality. He has also been an adjunct faculty member in the counseling and human development program at St. Lawrence University, where he has taught graduate courses in human sexuality. Early in his career, his work with students received national recognition with his election to the board of directors of the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS). Kelly served for 8 years as the editor of the Journal of Sex Education and Therapy. Kelly is a member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists and of the Society for the Scientific Study of Human Sexuality. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Sexology and a clinical fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists.

Dont get me wrong I love Twilight but it was young adult . This was more "adult sexy" These vampires were more like the ones I grew up watching , sleeping during the day coming out at sundown. When the vampires would feed or get angry I pictured them looking the ones in 90's movie Lost Boys. Great read ! Move over Jacob and Edward here come Jason and Lucas

To those who gave this book 5 stars... What were you thinking? Did we even read the same book? Geez! The story is such a drag. I couldn't wait for it to be over. I kept hoping for redemption. It just never happened.

My typical measure of a good book is my eagerness, or at the very least, my interest, to read the book again. This one doesn't even instill the urge. Please. Save your money.

This is an awesome book. I was totally drawn in from the beginning all the way to the end. There was plenty of love, some sex, and suspense. The book has everything including great characters. Lucas is a hot alpha male vampire and his love, Elsa is a charming, sweet gal. The storyline was great as well. Definitely give yourself an enjoyable reading experience and try out this book.
