Despite the heavy subject matter, Francis manages to inject humor into story with accounts of actions done in the manic state to what its like to spend time in a psychiatric hospital. I recommend for anyone that has been diagnosed or has someone close to them with schizophrenia. As demonstrated, the disease is treatable, and with care one can still lead a fully productive and rich life.

If anyone happens to notice the term of schzoaffective disorder, that is the best book I can refer to. For the doctors, mental workers, the patients and their families and friends.
Francis is so vivid descriped how his condition developed. Where he has been, and where he is now. It shows the hope and proper way to control the mental condition.
I'm highly recommended for the first book to read for schizoaffective disorder.

i found this memoir a startling and powerful introspection chronicling a tragic and painful slide into the abyss of mental illness in someone who was previously unscathed by such a malady. In Byzantine times, in the Italian Renaissance, and even up to 1800, it was regarded as an ideal introduction to Plato's thought. In fact it far from being this, but it is an excellent source for our understanding of Platonism in the second century AD. It presents a survey of Platonist doctrine, divided into topics of Logic, Physics, and Ethics, and pervaded with Aristotelian and Stoic doctrines, all of which are claimed for Plato.

English translation of a philosophical handbook from around the second century AD

This is a translation of the Didaskalikos of Alcinous. Dillon speculates that Alcinous comes after Plutarch, before Galen, and was approximately contemporary with Apuleius and Numenius. In the 19th century, mostly German scholars made critical editions of most extant classical works in Greek and Latin. But aside from the first rank of Plato, Aristotle, Cicero and a few others, many of these works have not been translated into English, even though complete works survive, unlike the Stoic authors, Megarians, and Presocratics for whom we have only fragments. (An example I came across today: Galen, "De sophmatis", in volume 20 of Claudii Galeni Opera Omnia; and Chalcidius's commentary and translation of the Timaeus has only in this year been translated by John Magee.) We are lucky that Dillon, a leading scholar of ancient Platonism, has translated this work.
