It sets the stage for this much needed discussion, not just with the reader, but within herself. Reliving this painful past has been arduous but necessary in starting the journey to healing and accepting her own God-given uniqueness and beauty. Not every person has identical discriminatory experiences. Some may have experienced social isolation and prejudice in other forms. Others may have been ridiculed for having different beliefs. Perhaps weight was the object of scrutiny. Maybe some were singled out for being too-light skinned. Rhonda Bennett is a native of Tuskegee, Alabama. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL, where she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. A mother of two extremely charismatic boys, Rhonda understands the importance of creating an environment that promotes success in an atmosphere where self confidence and purpose can thrive. She has a strong belief that her role as a parent is not to limit her children’s abilities and dreams to make life more convenient for her, but to make adjustments in her life that will incorporate her children and create opportunities for them. With that vision in mind, Rhonda founded two educational programs: Camp Xander-Well and F.O.C.U.S. (Forget Outside Circumstances Until Success) Academy. Both programs strive to enhance the educational experience by fostering a love for learning created from an atmosphere conducive to multiple learning styles. Rhonda desires for all children to realize the greatness within themselves. Motivated and inspired by her love for hosting, organizing, and planning events, Rhonda founded, A Genie in a Bottle Events, an event planning company that hosts an array of events from weddings and baby showers, to holiday events and various galas. Rhonda’s favorite moments are with her family. Whether it’s pizza and movie night with her boys, Sunday dinner with close friends, or date night with her hubby, Kevin.

Awesome Book!

Sometimes embracing ourselves is one of the most challenging things to do. It’s almost as if we have to fight to be who we truly are because we have been told for so long who we aren't. Rhonda’s words in “Mama I Wanna Be Light-skinned”, are a reminder that we can be victorious in just who we’ve been called to be.

I believe it’s important to admit our weaknesses and to be able to face ourselves and see what’s really there. That’s what this book is about. It’s about honesty. It’s about dealing with insecurity. It’s about learning to accept our unique selves, even when those we love don’t.

"Mama I Wanna Be Light-skinned” goes deeper than complexion. It’s a relatable life journey that expresses what many of us may fear sharing aloud---those deep parts of us that we would rather keep hidden. Rhonda’s story of her own personal battle helps us to see that we’re not alone in our struggles. It’s an anthem of hope for anyone who has been battling with their own identity. This book is definitely a must have and read. For the first time in 32 years I read this book in a day and a half. Once you pick it up, it's hard to put it down. It's so touching and relatable. This book will have you looking at yourself in a whole new and positive way. About the Author
Louis Catron is an award-winning Professor of Theatre at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he teaches playwriting, directing, and acting. He has written books and magazine articles on playwriting and play direction, and as an experienced actor, playwright, and director, he has also supervised the productions of hundreds of original plays, many of them one-person plays.

Possibly the best Directing primer on the market.

Dr. Catron's book melds theory with practicality in the most utilitarian Directing primer on the market. Designed, I believe, as a college text, it has strong application at the professional and community theatre levels, better than Cohen/Harrop, John Miles-Brown and Dean & Carra. The only book which comes close to Catron's is Benedetti's The Director at Work.

Excellent Textbook can't buy used b/c no one sells it back

The text was used for my directing one class in college. It is very straight forward and delves into various aspects of directing. A very well rounded read. I will not be selling this back, and plan on referring to it in the future.

I took a class in Direction from Dr. Catron as a student at William & Mary and we used his textbook right after it was published. Over the years, I have read many books about play direction but Catron's is the one that I keep coming back to. This book gives you all the tools to really direct all aspects of a play. It is comprehensive yet practical. My favorite chapters are the ones on Working with Actors - this is an area where many directors struggle and Catron's advice is spot on. He presents a list of different actor challenges, how to identify them and then what to do. I was lucky enough to be in a couple of plays directed by Dr. Catron and he was an excellent director. This text is highly recommended for both novice and experienced directors.

About the Author
Michael Dylan Foster is Associate Professor in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology and the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Indiana University. He is the author of Pandemonium and Parade: Japanese Monsters and the Culture of Yokai and numerous articles on Japanese folklore, literature, and media.

Shinonome Kijin is an artist and scholar of yokai. He lives and works in Chiba Prefecture, Japan.

Exactly what I was looking for!

I've been doing my best to find research on yokai for over five years. The book explains the progression of yokai folklore in Japanese culture before introducing us to them, which was proved helpful. It breaks down the progression and changes of their impact over the ages. It's more than simply telling us about the different yokai, but understanding why yokai exist.

The first book of its kind: detailed, thoughtful, academic and based on extensive research but still easy to read and accessible to non-experts. Really gives you as sense of the variety of yokai, their history, and the ideas surrounding them. There are about thirty or more images, but it is not a picture book (if you just want pictures, there are plenty available on the Internet).

Great book, full of monsters, scary and not so much. You can pretty much pick up the book at any point and look through it. As an artist I really enjoy the descriptions as well as the myth's or stories that are prescribed to each entity that is in this book.

About the Author
Ronald L. Fournier is a professor in the Department of Bioengineering at The University of Toledo. He is also the founding chair of the Department of Bioengineering. During his twenty years at Toledo, he has taught a variety of chemical engineering and bioengineering subjects to include courses in biochemical engineering, biomedical engineering transport phenomena, biomedical engineering design, and artificial organs. His research interests and scholarly publications are in the areas of bioartificial organs, tissue engineering, novel bioreactors, and pharmacokinetics.

Prof. Fournier is on the editorial review board of Technology and Healthcare in the International Journal of Health Care Engineering. He is a research journal reviewer for the following journals: AIChE Journal, Biotechnology and Bioengineering, Biomaterials, Cell Transplantation, Tissue Engineering, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry, and Enzyme & Microbial Technology. Prof. Fournier is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Diabetes Association, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Chemical Society, Cell Transplantation Society, Biomedical Engineering Society, American Society of Engineering Education, and is a Fellow of the American Institute of Medical & Biological Engineering.

It's a text book

What can I say, odds are you have to buy this whether you like it or not. In the off chance that you don't this one of the better Engineering text books. One huge thing is that it has a list of variables in the beginning of the book. This is NOT common in engineering text books and is a great help, especially if you are forgetful like me. It included examples that, while helpful, did not always explain their logical leaps or assumptions.
